Dorothy L. Stemen, 79 of Van Wert, died at 10:00 p.m., Wednesday April 20, 2016 at Kindred Care Hospital in Lima, Ohio. She was born on March 8, 1937 in Van Wert, Ohio, the daughter of the late Lewis Harold Johnson & Dorothy M. (Lee) Death. On November 27, 1955, she married Robert L. Stemen, who survives at the residence. Dorothy was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, Ohio. She volunteered at Bread Bowl & taught Sunday school for many years. She spent most of her time with her children, grand-children & great grandchildren; watching all of their activities. She loved camping, shopping and playing cards. She was a 1955 graduate of Van Wert High School. Family survivors include her husband, Robert; children, Cindy Dunn of Van Wert, Don (Cindi) Stemen from Hilliard, Ohio and Sharon (James) Volk, both of Van Wert; sister, Carolyn M. Goodwin Van Wert; brother, Donald (Pat) Johnson of Van Wert; mother-in-law, Louise Stemen of Van Wert; ten grandchildren, Abbey & Alek Stemen, Jessica, Brandon, & Spencer Thompson, Jason Dunn, Danny (Felicia) Dunn, Nathan (Ashley) Dunn, Carrie Dunn, and Kelly Dunn; and twenty-eight great grand-children. Visitation is Saturday, April 23, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, April 24, 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, officiated by Rev. Gus Christo-Baker & Rev. Paul W. Miller., with brief visitation from 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment is at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, Ohio. Preferred memorials to First United Methodist Church, Van Wert.
