Donald Thomas, Weck, 80, of Harrison Township, died at 5:25 a.m., Thursday at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on December 11, 1932, in Harrison Township, the son of the late George Peter and Olga Lella (Shaffer) Weck. On September 9, 1956, he married the former LouElla Mae Speck who preceded him in death on August 29, 2000. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Roger and Eugene Weck; her sister, Eileen Louise Ryan; and a grand daughter, Leigha Wieman. Family survivors include two sons, James R. Weck of Decatur and Timothy P. Weck of Lima; two daughters, Olga S. (Richard J.) Kipp of Defiance, and Julie A. (Steve) Baker of Van Wert; a sister, Doris Baxter of Delaware; six grandchildren and two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren. Don was a lifelong farmer and drainage contractor. He was Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Defiance College in 1956. He was a member of Van Wert Old Fashioned Farmers Association, Train Collectors of America and the Portland Gas Engine Show. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Neil Hammons officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 10 a.m. Monday until time of services. Preferred memorials are to the Inpatient Hospice Center.
