Donald C. Sutton, 85, of Liberty Township, died at 11:25 a.m., Sunday at the Van Wert County Hospital. He was born on June 26, 1929, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Archie Clifford and Bertha Mae (Farling) Sutton. On December 11, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, the former Darlene June Eibling who survives. Other family members include his two sons, Gary L. Sutton of Bradenton Beach, Florida and Rick L. (Kathy) Sutton of Ohio City; one sister, Lois DuVall of Van Wert; a son-in-law, Joe L. Hoffman; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Lynn "Sheri" Hoffman and two sisters, Helen P. Thatcher and Thelma Stewart. Don was a 1947 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School and attended International Business College in Fort Wayne. He was a retired farmer and received the Jaycee Outstanding Farmer Award in 1960. He was a member of the Ohio City United Methodist where he had served as Lay Leader, Sunday teacher from youth to the oldest classes and served in many other capacities. Don was very active in his community and served on the Ohio City-Liberty School Board, the Van Wert County Hospital Board, a Trustee of the Marsh Foundation, the Peoples Bank Trustees, the Farm Focus Board, the 4-H Advisory Board, the Van Wert County Extension Committee, the State of Ohio Gasohol Committee and the State Farm Bureau Camping Committee for 20 years. He was a also a member of Gideons International. He received the County 4-H Alumni Award, the County Conservation Award in 1973, and the Ohio City-Liberty Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. He also hosted the Farm Focus in 1976. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the Ohio City United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Wilcox officiating. Interment will follow at the Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 1 - 8 p.m., at the Cowan & Son Funeral Home and Wednesday 9:30 - 11 a.m. at the Church. Preferred memorials are to the Ohio City United Methodist Church, Gideons International or the Marsh Foundation.
