David James Stevens, 73, of Van Wert, died at 1:18 p.m., Tuesday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on February 3, 1941, in Decatur, Indiana, the son of the late James Howard and Viola (Heath) Stevens. On July 21, 1962, he married the former Stella Jane Siders who survives. Other family members include his children, James Clayton (Elizabeth) Stevens and Tammy Kay Stevens, both of Van Wert; four grandchildren, Tasha N., Joshua J., Jermery David, and Cody J. Stevens; two step grandchildren, Kevina and Justin Currie; a great granddaughter, Layla Stevens; two sisters, Janella D. (Don) Lovellette of Syracuse, IN and Sharon K. Norman of North Manchester, IN; and three brothers, Donald W. Stevens of Van Wert, Gayle L. (Karen) Stevens of Van Wert, and Gary P. (Connie) Stevens of Ohio City. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Gibson. David retired from B.F. Goodrich in Woodburn, IN and was affiliated with New Life Fellowship in Van Wert. He was an avid sports fan - especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2014, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Custus officiating. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Convoy. Calling hours are Thursday 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Preferred memorials are to the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center or New Life Fellowship.
