David L. Brake, 50 of rural Van Wert, died at 10:40 a.m., Monday August 18, 2014 at his residence in Harrison Township. He was born on July 28, 1964 in Van Wert, the son of the late Virginia Jean (May) Brake. On September 9, 1989, he married Traci L. (Kelly) Brake, who survives at the residence. David was the owner of Interior Updates Construction & Remodeling. He had worked various construction projects in the area. He was a 1983 graduate of Van Wert High School; a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert; and enjoyed hunting & fishing and spending time with his children and gardening. Family survivors include his wife, Traci; son Jacob L. Brake of Van Wert; daughter, Chloe L. Brake of Van Wert; sister, Kathy S. Banta of Van Wert; brothers, George (Kathy) Brake of Ohio City, Greg (Kim) Brake of Atlanta, Georgia, Larry P. Banta of Van Wert, Mark A. (Renee) Banta of Monroe, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews and extended family. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, August 22, 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, officiated by Rev. Gus Christo-Baker. Interment is at Venedocia Cemetery in Venedocia, Ohio. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2-8 p.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour before the service Friday at the Church.
