Dave A. "Salty" Horner, 71 of Van Wert died at 11:55 p.m., Wednesday January 15, 2014 at the C.H.P.-Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert, Ohio. He was born on May 11, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of the late Ward L. and Mary K. (Caldwell) Horner. Dave retired in 1996 from the Van Wert O.D.O.T. garage. He attended St. Mary Memorial High School; a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War; and enjoyed the woods and hunting as well as riding his bike. His former companion, Donella Lynn Cornelius died September 17, 2003. Survivors include his sisters, Mary Lou Roby and Susan Jane Tomberlin, both of St. Marys; brother, Bill Joe (Evelyn) Stephenson of Spencerville; five step-daughters, Michele Contreras of Van Wert, Lisa Kline of Van Wert, Christy Kline of Indiana, Kimberly (Josh) Bates of Van Wert, and Casey Cornelius of Paulding; step-son, Rory Bigelow of Grover Hill; 11 step grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ward Horner and John Horner; and sister, Janna Taylor. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 11:00 a.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor James C. Burns of Liberty Baptist Church. Visitation is two hours ahead of the service. Military rites by the combined honor guard of the V.F.W. #5803 and American Legion Post #178 of Van Wert following the service. Memorial are to the Family.
