Darrel F. Riggs, 76, formerly of Columbus passed away Thursday morning, August 29, 2024 at his residence in Van Wert.

He was born on September 18, 1947 in Columbus the son of the late Alton B. Riggs and Beulah Maxine (Miller) Conyers. In 1990, he married Donna Alohalani (Oslund) Riggs who preceded him in death on August 29, 2015.

Family survivors include his three children, Laurie D. (Andy) Schultz, Valarie L. (Mike) Parks and Darren F. Riggs all of Van Wert; nine grandchildren, Brittney Schaadt, Brielle Schultz, Amelia Schultz, Isaac Schultz, Erica Riggs, Katlin (Lance) Dasher, Jesse Parks, Scot (Jessica) Riggs and McKenzie Riggs; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Velvet L. Colliflower of Waterford, Michigan; special friend and caregiver, Carol McConnell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Darrel was a member of West Broad Church of the Nazarene. He was a Van Wert City Fire Fighter from 1971-1979 and retired from Mannheim Auto Auction of Columbus, OH. He was also passionate about Ohio State University Buckeyes and enjoyed poetry, singing, art and woodworking.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Pastor Matt McGovern officiating. Calling hours are noon until time of service on Wednesday.

Preferred memorials are to the Van Wert Humane Society.
