Dale "Bart" Elgin Barthels, Jr., 55, of Van Wert, died at 5:15 a.m. Thursday at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born May 3, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of the late Dale Elgin and Frances (Heard) Barthels, Sr. He was married to the former Beth A. (Rosenwald) who survives. Other family members include four children, Bart (Courtney) Barthels of Van Wert, Tricia (Jamie) Stuart of Kenosha, WI , Joe (Angie) Hastings of Milwaukee, WI, and Brittni (Jenn) Riggle of Moundsville, WV; five brothers and sisters, Marsha (Jerry) Olson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Melody (Allan) Quandt of Amherst, WI, Maxine (Dan) Taylor of Zion, Illinois, Tricia Koepke of Clintonville, WI, and Gene Kelley of Almond, WI; and three grandchildren, his beloved Luna Barthels, Lance Hastings and Trystan Kangas. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Barthels. Dale was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was employed as a subcontractor by Yellow Pages. He was affiliated with Pentecostal Way Church in Van Wert. No services are scheduled at this time.
