Christie F. Bashore, 98, of Rockford, passed away at 12:33 a.m., Wednesday at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home. He was born on November 15, 1918, in Hoaglin Township, the son of the late William Albertus and Caroline W. (Akom) Bashore. On October 16, 1948, he married the former Juanita Whitmore who also preceded him in death on June 9, 2011. Family survivors include his daughter, Janet (Doug) Wierwille of Rockford; a son, Gregg (Sandra) Bashore of Van Wert; five grandchildren, Mathew (Jena) Wierwille, Ryan Wierwille, Sarah Wierwille, Andrew (Devin) Bashore, and Daniel Bashore; two great grandchildren, Mackenzie Jane Wierwille and Elijah Bashore; and a sister, Louise Leiter of Van Wert. Besides his parents and wife, Christie was preceded in death by a brother, Johnnie A. Bashore; and four sisters, Matilda Elizabeth Smith, Thelma Neuhauser, Alta Eileen Zinn, and Alice Leona Thomas, He was a graduate of Hoaglin Jackson High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1945. Christie retired from Continental Can Company (Greif Bros.) in 1979. He attended Calvary Evangelical Church and was a member of American Legion Post #178, Van Wert. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 9, 2017, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor W. Clark Williman officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of the American Legion and V.F. W. Posts of Van Wert. Calling hours are Sunday 2 - 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
