Cheryl Kay Miller, 62 of Van Wert, died Sunday at 10:37 a.m., May 17, 2015 at her residence. She was born on September 2, 1952 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Barbara (McPherson) Army Steptoe of Ohio City and the late Bernard Walter Army, Jr. She married Dr. Dennis J. Miller, who survives in Van Wert, Ohio. Cheryl was a school counselor at Edon Northwest Schools, retiring in 2013. She had also taught Occupation Work Experience (OEC) and English at Vantage School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert. She was a 1970 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School, a 1974 graduate of Ohio State University, and received her Masters degree from the University of Dayton. She was a member of Isaac Van Wert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Family survivors include her husband, Dennis; two sons, Matthew J. (Stacie) Miller of Columbus, and Jason M. (Karrie) Miller of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Megan E. Miller of Washington D.C.; two brothers, Bernard Bruce Army of Cave Creek, AZ and Clark Lynn (Pat) Army of Venedocia, Ohio; two sisters, Mickey J. McConahay of Ohio City and Sandra Kennedy of Lima, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Lucus R. and Victoria B. Miller. She was preceded in death by her half-brother, Michael W. Army. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 22, at First United Methodist Church (113 W. Central Ave) in Van Wert, officiated by Rev. Gus Christo-Baker and Rev. Paul W. Miller. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May21, 3-8 p.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral Home. Interment is at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, Ohio. Memorial contributions to the Van Wert Humane Shelter of the American Cancer Society.
