Bonnie Jean Winstel, 84, of Van Wert, died at 5:55 p.m., Wednesday, shortly after arrival at Van Wert County Hospital. She was born on May 17, 1929, in Alton, Kansas, the daughter of the late Raymond Arthur and Florence Fern (King) Thornburg. She first married Kenneth E. Jenkins who died in 1956. She then married Joseph Everett Winstel, Sr. who died on December 28, 2003. She was also preceded in death one son, Kenneth Edward Jenkins. Family survivors include her son, Steven E. Jenkins of Van Wert; two brothers, Raymond Arthur Thornburg, Jr. of Osborne, Kansas and Donald Thornburg of Kennelon, New Jersey; two sisters, Ida Lee Schump of Kansas and Myrna Marie Saunders of Oklahoma; and one grandson, Walter Winstel of Oklahoma. Bonnie had worked at Kennedy Manufacturing and attended the Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Cowan & Son Funeral home with Pastor Stuart Wyatt of Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery. Calling hours are 12 noon to time of service on Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer's Association or the Van Wert Humane Society.
