Obituary

Blanche June (Hughes) Bush, 94, of Convoy, died at 10:24 a.m., Sunday at the Van Wert County Hospital. She was born on March 14, 1920, in Ranger, Texas, the daughter of the late Clark Chester and Allie Victoria (Hopkins) Hughes. Blanche traced her linage back three generations to Nancy Elizabeth Hopkins who assisted John Saunooke, a Cherokee Indian and was part of the "Trail of Tears". Some of the Cherokee never left North Carolina but with the help of Nancy and other white neighbors, petitioned for a land grant from state. Many Cherokees hid in the mountains. About 1500 stayed in North Carolina mainly on the Qualla Reservation. On August 8, 1937, Blanche married Howelee Walker Bush who preceded her in death on October 18, 1998. Family survivors include her two daughters, Gay Lee (Allen) Eckhart of Convoy and Vicki Sue (John) Hadlock of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and one grandson, Mitchell Lee Hadlock. Blanche attended John Borwn School and was an avid Bible reader. She worked at Weatherhead (Dana) in Antwerp. She volunteered at the Convoy Care Center for ten years. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Calling hours are 12 noon to time of service on Wednesday. Preferred memorials are to the Salvation Army.
