Billy Joe Schmidt, 82, of Van Wert, passed away at 2:29 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2020, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born on June 20, 1937, in Fort Recovery, Ohio, the son of the late Rollie Russell Forrest and Elsie Viola (Draper) Schmidt. On April 20, 1959, he married the former Janet Joan Workman who survives.

Other family members include a son, Chris Schmidt of Van Wert; a daughter, Tina Eibling of Van Wert; a granddaughter, Kayla Frye; a brother, Robert Schmidt of Van Wert; a sister, Joice Gates of Celina; and four great grandchildren.

Billy was preceded in death by a son, Scottie Joe in 1991 and two sisters, Bonnie Walls and Eva Lou Burd.

Billy retired as a prep cook at Bob Evans Restaurant. He also had worked at St. Marys Canning Company and the Van Wert YWCA. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

There will be no visitation or services.
