Arthur L. "Art" Shook, 89, of Van Wert, passed away at 5:22 p.m., Thursday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert. He was born on December 1, 1926, in Van Wert, the son of the late William J. and Anna K. (Rose) Shook. On June 27, 1947, he married the former Betty J. Tangeman who survives. Other family members include his daughter, Karan Ann (James) Ottenweller of Convoy; and two sisters, Mary Louise Donaldson and Joan Gardner both of Van Wert. He is preceded in death by a sister, Edith August; and three half brothers, Wilber, Loyal and Clovis Shook. Art was a 1945 graduate of Van Wert High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Van Wert. He retired from Continental Can Company / Sonoco in 1986. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Rev. William C. Haggis officiating. Interment will follow at Ridge Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of American Legion Post #178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5803. Calling hours are Monday 4 - 7 p.m., and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to St. Marks Lutheran Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
