Obituary

Alma Ellen Bolenbaugh, 97, of Van Wert, died at 12:28 a.m., Friday at the St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. She was born on January 19, 1917, in Mercer County. She was the last surviving child of the family of the late Philip and Rebecca (Williams) Swander. She married John Vernon Bolenbaugh on March 30, 1937 in Huntington County, Indiana and passed away on May 16, 2008. Family survivors include her son, Jack A. (Sharon) Bolenbaugh of Van Wert; three daughters, Marjorie (Robert) Waldron of Celina, Carole Doner of Van Wert, and Jean (Thomas J.) Metzger of Van Wert; sixteen grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren; and two step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Kenneth Swander; three sisters, Nettie Swander, Lucy Copeland and Ola Swander; and a son-in-law, Ronald Doner. Alma was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Van Wert. She had worked at Goodyear in St. Marys, the Poultry House in Rockford and TuWay Products also in Rockford. She was active in the Women's Bowling League well into her 80's. Alma was an avid Cincinnati Reds, Dallas Cowboys and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Shafer officiating. Interment will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday 3 - 7 p.m. Preferred memorials are to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Disabled American Veterans.
