Edwin Philip Wittung, 90, of Liberty Township, passed away at 2:42 p.m., Saturday at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born on September 21, 1929, in Liberty Township, the son of the late Frederick P. and Iva Leola (Uhrich) Wittung. On March 27, 1960, he married the former Helen Ruth Burch who also preceded him in death on July 7, 2010.
Ed was a 1947 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School. He was a member of Countryside Church of the Nazarene near Wren where he had taught Sunday school and was a long time church treasurer. He was a farmer and retired after 29 ½ years at Federal Mogul. He was instrumental in starting the Challenged Higher ministry in Van Wert.
Family survivors include his three sons, Frederick E. (Patty) Wittung of Lima, Edwin P. (Lynne) Wittung, Jr., of Nederland, Texas, and Marlin L. Wittung of rural Van Wert; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Edwin Philip and John Wittung; and a brother, Fred (Sylvia) Wittung of Van Wert.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Countryside Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Carol Tumbleson officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 - 8 p.m., Tuesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the Church.
Preferred memorials are to the missions at Countryside Church of the Nazarene or Gideons International.
